COPPER ALLOY
DATA SHEET
C22600
Nominally composed of 87.5% copper and 12.5% zinc, Jewelry Bronze C22600 possesses a resistance to dezincification and to corrosion and stress cracking that makes it ideal for all-weather usage as well as for purely decorative purposes. In addition, the higher zinc content makes it slightly stronger and more ductile than C21000 and C22000 and still as equally pleasing in color.
Hot and Cold Working: C22600 has good hot workability and excellent cold workability. As cold headed wire, it provides an extremely serviceable stock for screws, rivets, screw shells, studs and bolts. The metal performs extremely well in all operations requiring blanking, coining, drawing, forming and bending, heading and knurling, shearing, spinning, squeezing and swaging, and stamping. It is ductile when annealed, and develops good hardness and strength when cold worked.
Joining: Joining by soldering and brazing is excellent. Good joints can be obtained by oxyacetylene, gas shielded arc, and resistance flash butt welding.
Applications: Although this alloy is frequently referred to as Jewelry Bronze because of its rich color, C22600 has a wider variety of applications than just jewelry. Of all its many uses, it is the favored metal for fabricating slide fasteners and zippers. Malleable and strong, it has proved itself an exceptional metal in this particular application. Its current-carrying capacity is sufficient to permit use of this metal in the manufacture of fasteners and connectors in certain types of electrical installations.
Another important use for C22600 as wire is for screens of all types. When cold headed and roll threaded, it is used for screws, bolts, rivets and studs of superior quality for outdoor uses as well as in instruments and apparatus. Its attractive color allows it to be used in a wide range of utilitarian and ornamental items.
Applicable Specifiations: When so specified, C22600 will be manufactured to the latest revision of B134 for wire.
Standard Forms Available: Wire. For other forms, please consult Ansonia Copper & Brass, Inc.
