COPPER ALLOY DATA SHEET

C24000

Low Brass C24000 is one of the strong and ductile brasses and is nominally composed of 80% copper and 20% zinc.  Because of its good corrosion resistance, strength and dependability under rugged conditions, it is used in many demanding applications.

Hot and Cold Working:  This alpha alloy is malleable when hot, having fair hot workability.  It has excellent cold workability, and, to a remarkable degree, without the need for annealing.  Common fabrication processes include blanking, drawing, etching, forming and bending, heading and upsetting, piercing, roll threading and knurling, shearing, spinning, squeezing and swaging, and stamping.

Joining:  Joining by soldering and brazing is excellent.  Good joints can be obtained by oxyacetylene and gas shielded arc welding.  Rod, bar and wire may be resistance flash butt-welded.

Applications:  C24000 is used as a weld overlay filler material, usually blended with C18900.  When cold headed, it is often used for many types of luxury items such as ornamental jewelry and components.  Other typical uses include musical instrument parts and optical equipment.

Applicable Specifications:  When so specified, C24000 will be manufactured to the latest revision of ASTM Specification B134 for wire.

Standard Forms Available:  Rod and wire.  For other forms, please consult Ansonia Copper & Brass, Inc.
