COPPER ALLOY
DATA SHEET
C27000 and
C27200
Yellow Brass C27000 has a nominal composition of 65% copper and 35% zinc, and Yellow Brass C27200 has a nominal composition of 63.5% copper and 36.5% zinc. Their yellow color, physical and mechanical properties are sufficiently similar to those of C26000 to make them almost interchangeable in most applications. Like C26000, C27000 and C27200 offer excellent to good corrosion resistance in most environments, but are not suitable for use with certain materials; for instance, acetic acid, moist ammonia or ammonia compounds, hydrochloric acid, and nitric acid.
Hot Working and Cold Working: Although C27000 and C27200 have fair hot workability, they have excellent cold workability. For drawing or other drastic cold working applications, the alloy is usually furnished soft, or with only slight cold reduction. For most forming, grain sizes of from 0.015 mm to 0.050 mm are preferred, but with heavy gauge material, or for severe deformation, softer metal of 0.070 mm or 0.120 mm grain sizes or larger may be preferred.
Joining: Joining by soldering and brazing is excellent. Joining by oxyacetylene welding is good, while only fair by gas shielded welding. Rod, bar, and wire may be resistance flash butt-welded.
Applications: C27000 is used for the manufacture of numerous parts made by drawing and other forming processes. As wire, the alloy can be supplied as cold heading wire for forming a wide variety of parts, or in spring temper to form springs of almost every type. It is used most frequently in applications where material cost is important where flexing is slight, and where the spring will not be exposed to weather. The following list merely suggests the range of its applications: springs, clips, screws, rivets, lock hardware, bathroom fixtures and fasteners for electrical and marine applications. For C27200 tube, applications include pump cylinder liners and heat exchanger shells.
Applicable Specifications: When so specified, C27000 will be manufactured to the latest revision of the following specifications: ASTM Specification B134 for wire. For C27200 tube, ASTM B135.
Standard Forms Available: C27000: rod, wire, shapes and flat wire. C27200: tube and pipe only. For other forms, please consult Ansonia Copper & Brass, Inc.
