COPPER ALLOY
DATA SHEET
C18150
ACB Zirconium Chromium Copper C18150 is an important and unique copper alloy with high electrical conductivity, hardness, and ductility, moderate strength, and excellent resistance to softening at elevated temperatures. The addition of 0.1% zirconium (Zr) and 1.0% chromium to copper results in a heat treatable alloy which may be solution treated and subsequently aged to produce these desirable properties. Rod is usually supplied from the mill in the fully aged and drawn condition so no further heat treatment is required by the fabricator. The softening temperature of properly heat treated C18150 rod exceeds 500°C as compared to unalloyed pure copper which softens at 200°C, and silver bearing coppers which soften at 350°C.
Hot and Cold Working: Alloy C18150 has both excellent hot and cold workability, and work hardens exceptionally well. For hot working, the properties of the alloy will be dependent upon the hot working temperature, cooling rate, and subsequent heat treatment. Cold working operations such as bending, cold heading, and swaging are suitable for C18150. Rod can be reduced over 50% without an intermediate anneal.
Joining: Alloy C18150 may be readily joined by soldering or brazing. Joining via oxyacetylene welding, arc welding or resistance welding are not recommended. This alloy is an excellent choice as a resistance welding electrode
Applications: Applications include welding electrodes, wheels, tips and rod extensions for resistance seam and spot welding.
Applicable Specifications: C18150 used for resistance electrode material is generally ordered to RWMA16 - Group A, Class 2, and, in the absence of any other requirements, will be manufactured to this standard.
Standard Forms Available: Rod, bar or wire. For other forms, please consult Ansonia Copper & Brass, Inc.
