How We Do It :: Testing Department

Overview

One area that Ansonia Copper & Brass (ACB) separates itself from its competitors resides in the area of Testing.

We not only manufacture copper alloyed materials but we also have the capabilities to test them here at our facilities, which results in faster turnaround times and lower prices for our customers.

Please take a look at our testing capabilities below.

Chemical Analysis Laboratory

ACB has the capability to chemically analyze all alloys cast on site. Real time, as melt control, includes surface analysis by X-ray Fluorescence and Optical Emission Spectroscopy for major constituents.

Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) is used for major constituent verification in addition to impurity detection to 10 ppm for most elements. Copper analysis for most alloys is by Electrolytic Deposition (not by difference).

Other analytic capabilities include Photometric, Titrametric, and Oxygen analysis.

Mechanical and Physical Testing Laboratories

Final mechanical and physical property lot testing may include Tensile properties, Hardness, Conductivity/Resistivity, Grain Size and Micro Structural Examination. Performance tests include Bend, Hydrogen Embrittlement, Expansion, Flattening, and Mercurous Nitrate.

Nondestructive Inspection Capabilities

Tube may be subjected to Visual/Dimensional Inspection, Hydrostatic Pressure Testing, and Ultrasonic Inspections.

Rods up to about 1.5 " Diameter may be Eddy Current Tested, as well as Visual/Dimensional inspected. Ultrasonic inspection of rod up to 4.5" diameter is also available for CuNi alloys.

Wire, either round or flat, can be visually, dimensionally inspected.
